THURSDAY- Students will be given class time to practice their final presentation. This includes memorization (at least 50%), eye contact, volume, rate, and pronunciation.

MONDAY- Students will discuss famous people and quotes-SB 211-212. Students will be introduced to the final English project which consists of a biographical presentation. Students will present their project on the final days (June 2nd and 5th- depending on class period).
TUESDAY- Students will select a famous American from a list of fifty. Using the checklist (SB 223-224), students will identify THREE credible sources and then take notes on biographical information
WEDNESDAY/ THURSDAY- Students will use the entire block period to gather research and create THREE annotated bibliographies. Step-by-step guidance will be provided in class.
FRIDAY- When the three annotated bibliographies are completed, students will then be allowed to start their Google Slides Presentation. The assignment will be placed in Google Classroom. WEEK 17 May 15-19
MONDAY- Students will write a Literary Analysis of Tangerine. Today, students will use their draft from last week and type the introduction. This assignment is in Google Classroom. SEE last Friday's notes for what is included in this introductory paragraph. Students will then select the character whose choice affected the main character and begin collecting text evidence for the second paragraph.
TUESDAY-Students will complete the second paragraph. This paragraph illustrates the character choices and explains how each one affects Paul. Minimum of three required with parenthetical citation indicating the page number in which the quote appears.
WEDNESDAY/ THURSDAY Block- Students will complete paragraph two and begin the final paragraph which explains the author's purpose and ties the novel in to a bigger idea.

TUESDAY-Students will read pages 252-277. At the end of class, they will turn in a paper with 3 statements, 2 questions, and 1 comment from today's reading.
WEDNESDAY/ THURSDAY BLOCK- Students will complete the novel and take an AR test (13 points)
FRIDAY- Students will write the introduction to their Literary Analysis. Choose ONE character whose choices affect Paul Fisher. Start with a quote (hook) from that character. Then summarize the book.
Finally, end with the thesis.
This should all be ONE paragraph.
Thesis should be something like this- In the novel, Tangerine, by Edward Bloor, one character's choices, and the consequences of those choices, affect the development of the main character.

MONDAY/ TUESDAY Block Day- Students will learn about the rhetoric appeals of ethos and pathos as well as rhetorical question and parallelism. (SB 151) Students will identify these appeals in two articles for and against violent video games. Students will then write a paragraph giving one reason for why or why not violent video games should be allowed, citing text evidence and using two rhetorical appeals.
WEDNESDAY- Late Start Students will complete their writing assignment. This writing assignment is due tomorrow.
THURSDAY- Argument DUE Students work in writing groups to share their written work with proof of a thesis and the two rhetorical appeals. Students will review all 6 rhetorical appeals: logos, ethos, pathos, rhetorical question, parallelism, and repetition.

Students may also use class time to clarify or work on their Outsiders packet (DUE Wednesday). This packet is worth 100 pts.

THE MYTH, ILLUSTRATIONS, AND PLOT DIAGRAM ARE DUE THURSDAY.
MONDAY/ TUESDAY BLOCK- Writing partners will create one plot diagram to accompany their myth. Most students should be finished with the myth, illustrations, and plot diagram by the end of the block period. If not, it all needs to be completed as homework. The final project is DUE on Thursday at the start of class. The myth will be turned in via Google Classroom. The plot diagram and illustrations will be turned in during class. Students will also take a brief quiz on the elements of a plot diagram during class.

TUESDAY-Students will work on pre-writing an original myth with a partner. Myths will show creation of a natural phenomenon, custom, or belief. Myths will include a plot diagram and include dialogue, sensory details, and figurative language.
WEDNESDAY/THURSDAY BLOCK- Students will use the entire period to work on their Thinking Map/ Plot Diagram of their original myth. They will create a Google Doc and share it with their partner so both students have access.

MONDAY- Students will practicing punctuating dialogue and take a test (grade not recorded). Students will listen to the audio of Daedalus and Icarus as they highlight text for unfamiliar vocabulary, characterization and theme. Collaborative discussion groups will take place.
TUESDAY- We will continue discussing the myth, Daedalus and Icarus. Students will create a plot diagram- DUE on their Block day. Students will respond to the writing prompt.
WEDNESDAY/ THURSDAY BLOCK- PLOT DIAGRAM DUE. Students will work in collaborative groups to revise their writing from Tuesday. Students will read Arachne, complete chart on pg 66 and create a Plot Diagram. (Diagram due Friday).

MONDAY- Students will look ahead to the next Embedded Assessment which is a myth written with story elements. They will create a circle map and assess vocabulary knowledge.
TUESDAY- Students will continue to review upcoming needed vocabulary and recreate a plot diagram as they identify the conflict and climax in a myth.
Tuesday's class periods are slightly shorter due to a Pep Rally at the end of the day.
WEDNESDAY/THURSDAY Block- Students will read Phaethon mark text for conflict and climax . Complete after reading chart SB pg 56. Complete 4/6 in the After Reading chart. Students will begin writing on how the character traits of Apollo or Phaethon drive the story to it's tragic conclusion. This must include a topic sentence that states the character's qualities and how those qualities drive the plot, precise language, and text evidence. This writing is DUE MONDAY
FRIDAY- Characterization and theme will be identified while reading Daedalus and Icarus SB 59-62. Students will have collaborative discussion, fill in chart on pg 63 and write a brief statement explaining a major theme using text evidence to support reasoning.

MONDAY- Students will take a test on genres, sub genres, and author's purpose. It will have 6 passages and mirror the worksheet that was completed in class last week. Credit for the worksheet will be given. Students will then look at Unit 1 in SpringBoard and complete Activity 1.2 on paraphrasing.

Wednesday/ Thursday Block Day- Students will review the story elements along with the scoring guide. They will then begin the draft of their myth.

MONDAY- Students will discuss famous people and quotes-SB 211-212. Students will be introduced to the final English project which consists of a biographical presentation. Students will present their project on the final days (June 2nd and 5th- depending on class period).
TUESDAY- Students will select a famous American from a list of fifty. Using the checklist (SB 223-224), students will identify THREE credible sources and then take notes on biographical information
WEDNESDAY/ THURSDAY- Students will use the entire block period to gather research and create THREE annotated bibliographies. Step-by-step guidance will be provided in class.
FRIDAY- When the three annotated bibliographies are completed, students will then be allowed to start their Google Slides Presentation. The assignment will be placed in Google Classroom. WEEK 17 May 15-19
MONDAY- Students will write a Literary Analysis of Tangerine. Today, students will use their draft from last week and type the introduction. This assignment is in Google Classroom. SEE last Friday's notes for what is included in this introductory paragraph. Students will then select the character whose choice affected the main character and begin collecting text evidence for the second paragraph.
TUESDAY-Students will complete the second paragraph. This paragraph illustrates the character choices and explains how each one affects Paul. Minimum of three required with parenthetical citation indicating the page number in which the quote appears.
WEDNESDAY/ THURSDAY Block- Students will complete paragraph two and begin the final paragraph which explains the author's purpose and ties the novel in to a bigger idea.

TUESDAY-Students will read pages 252-277. At the end of class, they will turn in a paper with 3 statements, 2 questions, and 1 comment from today's reading.
WEDNESDAY/ THURSDAY BLOCK- Students will complete the novel and take an AR test (13 points)
FRIDAY- Students will write the introduction to their Literary Analysis. Choose ONE character whose choices affect Paul Fisher. Start with a quote (hook) from that character. Then summarize the book.
Finally, end with the thesis.
This should all be ONE paragraph.
Thesis should be something like this- In the novel, Tangerine, by Edward Bloor, one character's choices, and the consequences of those choices, affect the development of the main character.

MONDAY/ TUESDAY Block Day- Students will learn about the rhetoric appeals of ethos and pathos as well as rhetorical question and parallelism. (SB 151) Students will identify these appeals in two articles for and against violent video games. Students will then write a paragraph giving one reason for why or why not violent video games should be allowed, citing text evidence and using two rhetorical appeals.
WEDNESDAY- Late Start Students will complete their writing assignment. This writing assignment is due tomorrow.
THURSDAY- Argument DUE Students work in writing groups to share their written work with proof of a thesis and the two rhetorical appeals. Students will review all 6 rhetorical appeals: logos, ethos, pathos, rhetorical question, parallelism, and repetition.

MONDAY/ TUESDAY BLOCK- Writing partners will create one plot diagram to accompany their myth. Most students should be finished with the myth, illustrations, and plot diagram by the end of the block period. If not, it all needs to be completed as homework. The final project is DUE on Thursday at the start of class. The myth will be turned in via Google Classroom. The plot diagram and illustrations will be turned in during class. Students will also take a brief quiz on the elements of a plot diagram during class.

Tuesday's class periods are slightly shorter due to a Pep Rally at the end of the day.
WEDNESDAY/THURSDAY Block- Students will read Phaethon mark text for conflict and climax . Complete after reading chart SB pg 56. Complete 4/6 in the After Reading chart. Students will begin writing on how the character traits of Apollo or Phaethon drive the story to it's tragic conclusion. This must include a topic sentence that states the character's qualities and how those qualities drive the plot, precise language, and text evidence. This writing is DUE MONDAY
FRIDAY- Characterization and theme will be identified while reading Daedalus and Icarus SB 59-62. Students will have collaborative discussion, fill in chart on pg 63 and write a brief statement explaining a major theme using text evidence to support reasoning.

TUESDAY- SB 1.5 Students will complete a QuickWrite (QW) on choices made at school and will add to their circle map. We will review sensory details and figurative language by taking notes and completing a small booklet.
WEDNESDAY/ THURSDAY- block SB 1.5 continued. Students will read along with audio to Bad Boy and identify sensory details, figurative language, and incidents, response and reflection in the story.
Students will then start a Thinking Map for a narrative on choice. They will include sensory details, figurative language, and parallel structure.
FRIDAY- Students will complete their narrative and revise with a writing group.

April 11-15
Monday- We will continue to listen to the audio of Tangerine. 12 entries in the Double Entry Journal is due Block Day this week (Tuesday or Wednesday)
Tuesday- Block Day for 1,3,5, and Prime We will finish the novel and begin discussing the next Embedded Assessment, which is a literary analysis.
Wednesday- Block Day for 2,4,6, and Enrichment We will finish the novel and begin discussing the next Embedded Assessment, which is a three paragraph literary analysis.
Thursday- Students will draft the introduction to the literary analysis,which includes a hook, a summary of the book, and thesis
Friday- Students will practice the ELA SBAC test for next week.

Monday- Students will listen to Tangerine and finish reading Part 2 for homework.
Tuesday Block 1-4-Students will take a short quiz on Monday's reading. Students will begin crafting an introduction for a Literary Analysis. We will also continue reading Tangerine.
Wednesday Block 5,6,1,2- Students will finish writing introductions for a Literary Analysis and continue reading the novel.

Wednesday/Thursday Block- SB 196-197 Students will write a conclusion to a literary analysis. Students will read through "November 10".

Monday- Language MAP Test Review- Kahoot and discussion.
Tuesday/ Wednesday Block- SpringBoard- fill out chart on 178 and then complete paragraph on pg 179. Students will take copy of Tangerine home to transport between home and school. By start of class on Thursday/ Friday, all students are responsible for reading Tangerine through pg 105.
Thursday/Friday Block- SB 192-193. Students will complete graphic organizer and then write a compare-contrast paragraph. We will continue to read the novel, Tangerine.
March 7-11
Monday-Students will continue to read Tangerine, fill out a double entry journal, and learn vocabulary.
Tuesday/ Wednesday Block -Reading MAP will be taken.
Thursday/Friday Block - Students will continue the novel, Tangerine.
February 29- March 4
Monday-Students will peel a tangerine and describe it with sensory details. Notes will be taken and a descriptive paragraph with imagery will be written.
Tuesday-Students will write a paragraph using imagery, begin a double entry journal with text evidence and commentary, and read the novel.
Wednesday/ Thursday Block- Students will learn about a literary analysis as the connect the importance of their double entry journal to their Embedded Assessment. We will continue to read the novel in class. Students will also continue learning of subordinate and insubordinate clauses and conjunctions.
Friday-We will continue reading Tangerine and completing correlating SpringBoard activites.
February 22-26
Monday-Students will continue to type their six paragraph argumentative essays with at least 3 rhetorical appeals. Students will work in writing groups to help revise papers.
Tuesday- Students will continue to write their essay. A review of citing sources will be given. A minimum of two sources are required for the essay.

Monday-NO School- President's Day
Tuesday- Students will create a Thinking Map for their Argumentative Essay. Students need three claims and one counterclaim.
Wednesday/ Thursday Block- Students will continue to create a detailed Thinking Map and conduct research that helps support their argument.
Friday- Students will include rhetorical appeals to their maps. These include questions, repetition, parallelism, logos, pathos, and ethos. At least three of the six must be used.
WEEK 20- January 18-22
Monday- No School in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr.
Tuesday-Students will read a news article regarding advertising and youth. They will take notes and pull information relevant to their research.
Wednesday/Thursday Block- Students will identify simple, compound and complex sentences. Students will also create a thinking map as they prepare for writing an expository essay on the role of advertising in the lives of youth.
Friday- Students will narrow down search terms and look for articles to support their writing.
WEEK 20- January 11-15
Monday- Students will review ways to evaluate websites and learn about domain suffixes.
Tuesday- Students will create questions for their upcoming research paper on Advertising and Youth. Students will review articles and take notes on the first portion of the documentary film, Consuming Kids: The Commercialization of Children.
Wednesday/ Thursday Block Day- 7th grade Health Screenings will be conducted during the first part of class. The remainder will be spent watching and taking notes on the documentary.
Friday- Students will read a news article and mark the text with information to support their research. Students will submit research question.
Accelerated Reader test deadline- December 15th. 7th graders must have 50 AR points. Points will be 10% of the English Grade.

Monday- Students will practice test taking strategies and ask questions regarding the English semester final study guide. Students will be given the opportunity to prepare for the writing portion of the exam.
Tuesday- Students will continue to review by working through the study guide. 3pm is the deadline for AR tests.

The next Embedded Assessment is to write an expository essay on Youth and Advertising.
Monday- Students will read an article entitled $211 Billion... in SpringBoard and review rules for collaborative discussion groups.
Tuesday-Students will complete an anticipation guide, read the next article on advertising, and work in collaborative groups to discuss. Students will add to their notes.
Wednesday/Thursday Block- Students will read an article regarding marketing to children. Students will identify text features and learn about effective research questions.
Friday- Students will be given a Semester Final Study Guide and class time to start reviewing.
WEEK 16- November 30- December 4
Monday- Students will continue to type their final copy of their Illustrated Myth and work on drawings.
Tuesday- Students will use class time to complete and turn in Myth along with illustrations. Myth will be submitted via Google Classroom.
Wednesday/ Thursday Block Day-Students will share myths with other small groups. Students will then begin a Unit 2 which prepares students to write an expository essay giving information about advertisement to youth. We will review vocabulary and complete lesson 2.1.
Friday- Students will identify text features in informational text and read and discuss an article that focuses on advertising to youth.
WEEK 15- November 23-27
Monday- Students will work at revision stations to revise and edit their original myth. Myths will be due Tuesday, December 1st.
Tuesday-Students will continue to revise and edit. Students will also begin typing final copy and work on their illustration.
Wednesday- minimum day- School ends at 11:30

Monday- In preparation for the 2nd Embedded Assessment, students will work with a partner to begin an outline for creating an original myth. They will come up with ideas for setting, characters, plot, natural phenomenon, events, and a lesson. The end result will be an illustrated myth worth 100 points.
Tuesday- Students will create a Plot Diagram for their original myth.
Wednesday/ Thursday Block Day- Students will review the story elements along with the scoring guide. They will then begin the draft of their myth.
Friday- Myth writing will continue as students refer to the scoring guide. Students will meet with other writers to share stories and obtain feedback.
WEEK 13- November 9-13
Monday- Students will read a Arachne. Students will create a Plot Diagram DUE BLOCK DAY
Tuesday-Students create a Circle Map for natural phenomenon and complete activities in SpringBoard on symbolism.
Wednesday- NO SCHOOL- Veteran's Day. Thank a Veteran!
Thursday/Friday BLOCK days this week- Students will select a partner for their next writing assignment, research 2 gods and identify symbolism in a fable by reading The Lion, The Fox, and The Stag.
October Late Work School Wide DEADLINE is Thursday, 10/29. This is the last day assignments can be turned in for credit.
WEEK 12- November 2-6
Monday- Students will complete a chart that determines their knowledge of academic and literary terms for the new unit on Myths. They will then look ahead to see what will be required of the next Embedded Assessment, which is writing and illustrating and original myth. In addition, students will write the elements of a plot diagram in their classwork notes.
Tuesday- The class will read and discuss the myth entitled Phaethon.
Wednesday/ Thursday Block-Students will work whole class to create a plot diagram. Students will then complete SpringBoard activities on pgs. 56-57.
Friday- Students will read the next myth, Daedalus and Icarus and work in small groups to create a plot diagram.
WEEK 11 October 26-30
Monday-Students will revisit their bias sheet and discuss theme(s) from The Outsiders. Students will also complete their 4th and final QuickWrite.
Tuesday- Students will analyze a poem for meaning and structure. Students will identify types of sentences and correct usage of subject/ verb agreement.
Wednesday/ Thursday Block- Students will watch a completely wrap up the novel by watching a PowerPoint and YouTube video on both the setting and author. Students will then begin the 2nd part of Unit 1 in Springboards on myths.
Friday- No school in celebration of Nevada Day.
We will have time to read The Outsiders in class this week. Students may bring headphones if they would like to listen to the audio version.
WEEK 10 October 19- 23
Monday- Students will continue to work on their vocabulary sheet (test on Friday). Students will also complete a QW and begin to read Ch 9 and 10 in The Outsiders. This must be finished for HOMEWORK. Novel Analysis packet also DUE FRIDAY.
Tuesday- Students will discuss book, take a comprehension quiz and read Chapters 11 and 12. This brings us to the end of the novel. It must be finished for HOMEWORK.
Wednesday/ Thursday Block- Students will compare and contrast the novel with the movie as we watch it in class.
Friday- Students will turn in their novel analysis packet as well as their movie analysis, and take a vocabulary quiz.
WEEK 9 October 12-16
Monday- Students will take a vocabulary quiz on The Outsiders Ch 1-4. Vocabulary sheets are due and a new one for Ch 5-8 will be handed out. Students will begin Ch 5 and finish for homework.
Tuesday- Students will take a quiz on Ch 5, discuss vocabulary for Ch 6 and complete a QuickWrite. Ch 6 will be read for homework.
Wednesday/ Thursday Block- Students will study a poem, work on their packet- novel analysis, and independently read. The quiz for Ch 7 and 8 will be identifying text evidence for the 10 questions.
Friday- Text evidence quiz for Ch 7-8 is due. Students will review vocabulary and complete vocabulary worksheet.

Tuesday- Students will finish Ch 1 of The Outsiders. Students will be given a novel analysis packet to use during the course of the move. Included are activities for character traits, plot, and conflict. They will continue to learn and use vocabulary for each chapter.
Wednesday/ Thursday Block- LW complete a QuickWrite and discuss slang as it applies to the novel. Students will also work on 5 new vocabulary words and begin reading Chapter 2.
Chapter 2 must be read before Friday's class
Friday- Students will read and discuss nonfiction text on Drive-In's. Students will also begin reading Chapter 3.
WEEK 7 September 28- October 2
Monday- Students will revise their lead and setting in their narrative. Students will also practice correctly punctuating dialog throughout the week.
Tuesday-Using guidelines and activities in SpringBoards, students will revise the middle sections of their personal narrative by looking at structure, transitions, sensory details and figurative language.
Wednesday/Thursday Block- Students will revise the conclusion of their narrative. Students will also begin discussing and reading the novel The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton.
Friday- Students will identify character traits and social groups as we continue with reading and discussing The Outsiders.
WEEK 6 September 21-25 (No Block Schedule this week)
Pau-Wa-Lympics are this week! Your child will be participating in a fun filled week and at least one event as they represent their Prime Reading class.
Monday- Students will practice writing and correctly punctuating dialog.
Tuesday- Students will prepare for a narrative writing by going over guidelines, planning and understanding writing groups and the upcoming process. Students will be given a prompt to think about.
Wednesday-Students will rewrite and create a Thinking Map on a personal narrative.
Thursday- Students will write, revise, and edit their own narratives.
Friday- Students will be placed in a Writing Group and begin a self and peer editing process of their papers.
WEEK 5 September 14-18
NO SCHOOL ON FRIDAY- TEACHER COLLABORATION DAY
Monday- Students will complete draft of personal narrative. Using Chromebooks, students will share/ respond and revise writing.
Tuesday- Students will continue to revise and edit narrative. Final copy to be submitted by the end of class.
Wednesday/ Thursday Block- Students will review the 8 parts of speech, especially focusing on prepositions and adverbs by listening, discussing, writing, and playing games.

Tuesday- Students will define the word analyze and participate in an activity to understand the meaning and use. Students will then analyze the text Bad Boy as they identify figurative language, sensory details, dialogue, and the incidences and responses embedded in the memoir.
Wednesday/Thursday- Students will generate ideas, create a thinking map and share and respond based on an personal incident which required choice. Students will also participate in an adjective/ adverb game.
Homework- students will write or type their draft
Friday- Students will share/respond, revise, and edit their draft. Students will then create the final copy.

Monday- Students will demonstrate understanding of elements of a narrative by creating a circle map. They will write a Quick Write about a childhood memory focusing on the choices they had to make.
Tuesday/ Wednesday (BLOCK) Students will read an autobiography and find the incident, response, and reflection. They will also analyze structure of narratives.
Thursday/ Friday (BLOCK) Students will take a quiz on 6 types of figurative language. Students will also write a Quick Write on choices made at school and use metacognitive markers as they read a memoir.

Monday- Students will paraphrase author's quotes that all center around Choices which is the major theme of our Spring Boards text/work book. Students are also reviewing figurative language: simile, onomatopoeia, and personification.
Tuesday/ Wednesday (BLOCK)- Students will read, discuss, and analyze two poems with the theme of Choices.
